Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international, non-profitable, non-governmental humanitarian relief organization with its head quarter in Birmingham, UK. It enjoys consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for International Red Cross and red Crescent Moments and NGOs in Disaster Relief. Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999.

Job Description:

The Job Holder works with internal key stakeholders to identify risk and suggests risk mitigation measures. Assesses adequacy and compliance of internal controls and recommends improvements to reduce identified risks to an acceptable level. Lead activities of the Internal Audit Department including acting as custodian of Islamic Relief Complaint Response Mechanism.

This person will not only strive to provide the highest level of professional service but also maintain the highest ethical standards and due professional care within his work and internal audit department.

It also includes regular formal audits of IRA’s projects execution, with perspective of program and support departments, and work with head of departments/HOP in improving systems and processes. Act as a focal person in providing advisory role on all matters related to Internal Audit. Prepare and submit reports to his/her reporting manager.

SCOPE AND AUTHORITY

Scope of the Role:

The Scope includes making recommendations in audit reports which will have an impact on control environment in offices and projects. Conduct independent audits (investigations, compliance of funding agreements and of high-level controls) and make standalone recommendations based on previous knowledge and experience. Need to review process, check, documentation through different audit methodologies/techniques while conducting audits. Ensuring best values and principles are applied when interacting with beneficiaries and local officials aligned with IR guidelines and Values.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications (Bullet Points)

  • A part or fully recognized professional qualification (same as or equivalent to):
  • CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)
  • ACMA (Institute of Cost and Management Accountants)
  • ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants)
  • ACCA (Certified Chartered Accountant)
  • CIIA (Institute of Internal Auditors)
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience of internal audit and complaint handling and reporting specifically in INGO or any other field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required.
  • which implies a thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures and practices of accounting and financial records and transaction.
  •   A knowledge of audit procedures, including planning, techniques, test and sampling methods involved in conducting audits.
  • Good time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times and a good understanding of the IIA’s Code of Ethics
  • An ability together, analyses and evaluate facts and to prepare and present concise oral and written reports.
  • An ability to maintain current knowledge of developments related to business matters of interest to internal audit, particularly legislation changes and developments as they affect charities, and new auditing techniques and practices.
  • The Internal Auditor is expected to travel to Islamic Relief Afghanistan field offices. This may be on short notice and such visits could realistically last for several days.
  • Ability to use MS Suite (e.g. Office and Excel) and understand financial databases (e.g. AX)
  • An ability to maintain knowledge of developments in the sector.
